SCHULE FRIEDL KUBELKA Filmschule

PROGRAMM

Schuljahr 19/20
1. Oktober bis 31. Mai
Leitung: Philipp Fleischmann

(Philipp Fleischmann)

WORKSHOPS

ROBERTO MINERVINI
WORKING WITH FEAR

FEAR as the physiological obstacle to overcome when working on the real.
FEAR as an ideological hurdle when considering the repercussions inherent to approaching a particular subject.
(Kooperation Filmschule x Stadtkino Wien, Workshop in English)

ROSE LOWDER
TIME AS A COMPLEX BUT ESSENTIAL ELEMENT IN FILM

First of all I would like to study the relationship and the difference between how time is experienced in general when living and the way it is perceived during the duration of a film sequence. Then, having seen how the temporal aspect of a film is intricate, involving many interacting factors, I would propose that everyone tries to make a short film around a contemporary subject that takes into account our discoveries concerning time. (Workshop in English)

MARY HELENA CLARK
A PUZZLE IS SOMETHING PUZZLING

A puzzle is something puzzling : it expects deduction and solution, while at the same time describes a condition of open confusion. Based on the Flaherty NYC series Puzzling co-curated by Clark, this workshop considers divergent perceptual experiences of the world via the frame of the puzzle and the collage film. The workshop will explore the film form as a choreography of sense and stimuli and the perceiving body the filmic experience implies. Students will shoot and record audio, explore sound and image relationships, and develop ideas around structure and montage while editing their work. Exercises will be based on writings and work by Lyn Hejinian, Lisa Blackman, Ivan Martinac, and Leslie Thornton. (Kooperation Filmschule x school, Workshop in English)

NAZLI DINCEL
ANALOG FILM AND THE BODY

My films engage themes of disruption, arousal, immigration, trauma, and the body, for an afternoon exploring the physical properties of a 16mm celluloid film. Participants will learn how to manipulate the physical surface, color, and texture of both found footage and clear 16mm film strips with direct hands-on techniques and in a supportive and collaborative environment be given time to create on their own. A variety of techniques and tools will be employed, from scratching or typing directly into the film emulsion to punching holes and even sewing through the film, in addition to adding color with inks and marker. This type of cameraless filmmaking (or direct animation) is a meditative process for me in which the analog film becomes a sort of metaphor for the body. Participants are encouraged to come ready to experiment. (Kooperation Filmschule x Sixpack Film x Mumok, Workshop in English)

SUSANNE SACHSSE
FIGHT THE MONOMEDIA. A WELL-CAMOUFLAGED COLD SHOWER. OR : WHAT IS SOMETHING WITHOUT PATHOS?

And this will happen : In this workshop we will develop an escalated performance installation with sound, text, film, chorus, chorusline and solos. A family portrait and the destruction of the nuclear family. O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O O OK. We will employ an orgy of methods from the revolutionary gender queer Off- Off- Broadway Theater scene of the 1960s to post-Brechtianism and feminism in order to create new possibilities for performance in intermediate contexts. (Workshop in English and German)

PHILIPP FLEISCHMANN
SCULPTING LIGHT AND SPACE

to cover, to secure, to pull, to scroll, to wind, to thread, to pull, to push, to slide, to store, to hide, to stretch, to shorten, to twist, to bend, to cut, to splice, to remove, to cleave, to stick, to attach, to mount, to tighten, to pin, to lift, to move, to shift, to carry, to support, to place, to open, to expose, to look, to gaze, to take, to record, to absorb, to receive, to stare, to stop, to close, to pause, to wait, to secure, to hide, to remove, to collect, to imprint, to memorize, to fixate, to enclose, to surround, to expand, to light, to sculpt, to continue (Workshop in German)

PAVOL LISKA / KELLY COPPER
NO PERMISSION

In this workshop we will focus on methods and necessities for filmmakers to work independently and without permission. How to make films within the available means, not waiting for someone to give you money or approve your script, but working out of an inner need to make art and push beyond the limits of the art form, and having the highest artistic standards even with the poorest production means. (Workshop in English)

VORTRAGSREIHE
